Bunya-bunya cones

One would not want to sit under this tree in August. It has dropped 20 cones in the past 4 days. Araucaria bidwellii.

What do you do with these cones - besides lobbing them at neighbors and passing cars?

And so you're out there, under the tree, collecting bunya bunya death bombs? Hmmm...

I had read that the Aborigines roasted the nuts that are in the sections (the cone falls apart as it dries) so I did try that. Once. Pretty bland. Now they just go in the "greens can" because otherwise the damn things sprout. Everywhere! The squirrels bury the nuts and...well you know how that goes.

Yeah Ange so if you start smelling something "in the air"...you might send the cadaver dogs out for a visit.
